VERBAL DIARRHOEA: About!!!

Hey guys!!!! I've just started a new segment on this blog and it's called VERBAL DIARRHOEA ! Why? Because it typifies what I am and what I've been writing off late! What? It's basically my take on the happenings around, a warped opinion basically! When? Well, as of now I'm planning on making it a monthly segment... but who knows... might make it bi-monthly... it really depends on the time I can make and the fodder I can gather!!!Sigh! Of course, the pieces literature shall be churned out... but as far as now goes, the sarcasm, cynicism and the ideas that nobody else will listen to needs an outlet... So here goes!!! Hope u find it fun and refreshing!!! Cheers guys!!! Nive :P

Verbal Diarrhoea: CWG 2010- My take

The IX CWG touted India ’s Games has drawn to a close … the roof stands intact and neither has the floor collapsed beneath anyone’s feet! Indian athletes turned in a stellar performance with 101 medals … and the imperialists, the English… in honour of whose conquests these games are held were pushed to third after a tooth and nail battle which went on right up to the finish! But all this, as is common knowledge, has come at quite a price, 70,000 crores to be exact!!! The brick bats came 1 st , thick and fast … dirty loos, leaky stadiums and varying standards of hygiene ensured that the CWG got all the publicity, albeit quite a bit of it was uncalled for. But I suppose in today’s world, and I’m sure all you starlets out there will agree, it’s the publicity that counts and ‘good/ bad’ part of it is essentially secondary! And so as the world media poured in, and the rain continued pouring in (into the stadium)… the OC ran helter skelter to mend the leaks (again both litera...

2010 FIFA WC- My Take

The dust has settled on Africa and silence befalls the 'dark continent' ... But not before it's streets were painted red and gold and it's once sleepy towns got the taste of the true 'fiesta', Spanish style! Yes the much talked about FIFA WC in South Africa, saw Spain being crowned as the 'Campeones del mundo ' or World Champions for the very 1st time!!! :D La Furia Roja, after lying on the threshold for decades have risen to the annex the coveted trophy! Well, the final has been discussed and debated by pundits... but here I'd like to focus on the 'fan moments' or in other words the things that made this game(in particular) and the entire tournament(in general) special for me! So here goes: 'THE DREAM FINAL' Netherlands vs Spain, like I mentioned in my pre tournament article, these were my 2 favourite teams and voila, who should make it to the final but them...! Cesc Fabregas and that I'm crazy about him is a well documented fact...

FOOTBALLIESTA!!!

The rainbow nation has opened it's doors... and the footie armada enters the realms of the once forbidden 'Dark Continent'!... and the superstars, the think tanks behind them and the super swank arm candies, the WAGs, are all on board! Can you hear the vuvuzelas !!! As I write this, we'are only 25 mins away from the kick off of football's quadrennial extravaganza, with this edition starring Lionel Messi, the African Nations, Spain and the debutant(who has thus far been talked about the most)- Jabulani So as excitement overpowers one and all I give you 5 reasons why you just shouldn't miss it!!!... So here goes, in no particular order,... 1. It's time for Africa... as the lyrics of Shakira's song go! With it's tumultous history, turmoil and isolation having been synonymous with them in the past, this symbolically seals their place along with the rest of the world! The country has left no stone unturned for this one-of-a kind carnival, and one can o...

Review- MNIK

My Name is KHAN…It’s regular Bollywood fare, yet perhaps somehow, just like the protagonist can sense his beloved’s presence by the merest whiff of her perfume, one can tell…can tell that Rizwan Khan’s tale is one with a difference! Set in the post 9/11 era, it traces one man’s journey, his journey to keep his promise, to prove his innocence and a journey, beyond all, to win back his only love. This Johar movie has all it’s essential ingredients in SRK, Kajol and the Shankar-Ehsan-Loy music and background score, it’s got the singing of ‘Hum honge kamyaab’ in a foreign land and is yet again based in America… Yet it comes with a difference. The tone is perhaps a shade obtuse and the message is delivered full on and blunt (the only way that Rizwan Khan identifies with). But perhaps, it’s because in today’s world there is no place for subtlety. Our ears are deafened by thunderous explosions, our vision blurred by blood stains and our intelligence obscured by prejudices, it ...
THE YOUNG SOLDIER It’s the crack of dawn, the day is yet to break. The young soldier is up and about, all is at stake. It’s a bright day, the warm cheer has spread. The young are exultant, their rapturous hearts have nothing to dread. But oh young soldier, why art thou still? Has not the mirth reached you? Does not your heart long the same thrill? Yet you stand there, Unperturbed by the festivities abound. Your soul oblivious to the music and sound. You smile a patient smile. But ‘ere you can plunge into the gaiety, there is yet a while. For in the line of duty, you lay down your best years. Thus enabling the rest of us to be at peace and bide more years. The sun beats down, it’s glory exalted. But you carry on, your steadfast march not halted. The eyes of the enemy look on, With fire in their arms and hatred so near. Silhouetted for now, but ready to emerge and cast the veil of fear. Yet you stand there, ...

Bright Rainy Days!!! :P

It started off bright and sunny, sunlight bathed the country side (Hoskote in this scenario). The sun god was out to proove a point... and every bird and bee was out to make hay while the sun shone. The bright smiles were back, and the same roads which were deserted over the past week were invaded by a myriad of beings! It was poetic perfection!!! But, as the day wore on and the morn gradually gave way to noon... The Sun shone with unrivalled intensity. Perspiration dripped down the side of our faces, yet the acclamatised beings bore forward, not even batting an eyelid! Despite this assertion, the grey clouds came back at aboutv 4.00 pm, their ranksvreinforced, their hearts brimming with renewed vigour! The downpour began... and continues as I write! But hold it, just as my dance of joy began... voices of annoyance emerged: "Damn! This rain is such a P-A-I-N!" "The clothes'll never dry!" "The slush is crating a havoc on the streets!" "I'm tota...

THE CHIMES OF TIME

“Ma, I can’t find my new ear-rings!” “I left it on your bed Alisha.”, comes my exasperated reply. “Ayaan! Just bring it right back… Ma!!!” “Ayaan, return your sister’s stuff please!”, I command my son. These kids! Sigh! There is a crisis in the house. It’s packed with half a dozen teen aged friends of my daughter’s. They’re here, in all earnest, to help me with the arrangements for Alisha’s birthday party, but I dread to think about the state of our house once they’re done. Presently the ancient clock announces the onset of 4 o’ clock in the evening, chiming it’s age old tune, ushering a familiar sense of anxiety within me. I have always been one who does things in the ‘T’th hour. The breakneck pace, the adrenalin rush and the sheer exhilaration of it all, I confess, gives me quite a high. And thus yet again, I’m about three hours behind schedule, preparing for a party at 5 pm and with well over two dozen things to be ticked off the list…And my ‘helping hands’ are becoming more of a ha...
Okay... so please don't remind me when the last time i penned anything( well virtually) on this blog was! The primary reason being ' Cornerpost ' which has been the centre piece of my life over the past few weeks. Okay so let's get things updated: Jan, Feb, March... God only knows! It was one big Blur!!! Studying/Exams /Studying/Exams/Marks/Heartbreak/Headache/Slog that's all I remember... actually I don't really remember Like I said it was a phase of dullish grey, with little golden sparks... Golden sparks with blue blobs! The blobs signify anxiety... it's this thing wherein you really feel guilty for doing something( fun) when you actually are supposed to be doing something else (in my case prepare for my exams), the end result being you do neither!!!... Okay one hurdle crossed as March '08 faded into oblivion.. the boards ... at least my say in them was history!!! Well April, my body metabolically gets tuned into the holiday mode, but alas!... mor...

The Shining Star

Cristmas is that time of the year when the earth is embraced with love and warmth. Through the ages Christmas stories have lit a fame of hope in the hearts of millions. The following story is my tale, a tale that is sure to leave you feeling nice and warm inside. So read on and Enjoy!!! Merry Christmas!!! Night had fallen and little blobs of light dotted the night sky. The Season of Joy had dawned and the festive cheer held the city in a warm hug. Little Abbie sat on a stool by the window, alternately doing her math homework and counting stars, the shining stars that dotted the windows of the little flats in the big apartment complex opposite to her home. She had counted twenty eight stars, when, she saw a huge Christmas tree being carried down the street. She jumped up and ran to the door, holding it ajar, she stared longingly after the tree till it vanished beyond the ramparts of the apartment complex. Her field of view was replaced by noisy, boisterous and harried Christmas shoppers...

EXPRESSIONS!!!!

KUDOS TO NATURE

Wow! The cool day breezes and the chilly nights are indeed a refreshing change after the monotonous hustle and bustle of daily city life. Ootacamund or Ooty provided a necessary diversion for my soul, which was knotted up in affairs of modern teenage city life. 26 th , MAY We bid a temporary adieu to B'lore , and set out towards the hill country. An endless journey through traffic laden streets........and almost five hours later , we rose through the pollution and met the clean environment of Ooty (that's still a relative statement!!!!) The usual boat rides and trips to the botanical gardens followed. The water in the lake was unexceptionally filthy but the botanical gardens were unusually clean. If this was the difference I don't know, but, every part of the lake was open to us Homo sapiens , but a lot of the gardens was not!!! But the bright side to all this was: Plastic/ polythene and all it's variations is banned in this hill station ......and what's mor...

AFTER A LONG TIME

It's been a really long time since I wrote something on this blog. It's been almost about as long since I managed to produce a decent piece of writing (well, read typing). So, during this fairly long period nothing really exciting has happened, well nothing at all unless you consider my twisting my perennially injured right ankle again or the fact that they are finally making decent drains on my street, as exciting news. The theatre workshop finally kicked off, and we are in the process of bringing to life a poem called RAVEN by Edgar Allen Poe. Seems really exciting right now, I fervently hope it remains as exciting & inspiring. Today was the second day of rehearsal.Yesterday we learnt stage fighting.Girl, was that some fun!You just won't believe it. Today we got into position and sort of rehearsed with the poem, Deepthi and Kavya are HEROINES of the Chorus.Really Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's all fun. The moves are intensely physical and if done really...

THE KAKA' SYNDROME

Ever heard of Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite? No?Well, you'll soon learn 'bout him. But, if yes, then "Welcome!", you've caught what I call the "Kaka' Syndrome". Since the 9th of June, when the world's 2nd largest and practically most loved sporting spectacle kicked off, fans have bid "au revoir" to Zizou, Ronaldo,Becks and Raul...........,coz KAKA' is the now the biggest thing in World football. This 24 year old, now a part of Brazil's famous 'Magic Quartet' along with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho & Adriano, is still in the infancy of his superstardom. Every day more and more people are catching this epidemic called the "Kaka' syndrome". I first heard of Kaka' about 10 months ago, when, though a prodigy, he was still playing second fiddle to the likes of Schevchenko at AC Milan's San Siro Stadium.I then knew very little about him and saw him play only a handful of Champions' League matches. Over th...

MY DEBUT PERFORMANCE

Nerves! Don't they haunt you exactly when you don't want them to? Well, I guess that's life. 2nd May,2006. My first show, BEYOND THE LAND OF HATTAMALA at RANGASHANKARA. We enter from the door on the right, somewhere up in the middle of the proscenium.I'm jittery and there are butterflies, catterpillars, worms and anything else you can think of in my tummy. This, not only because it was my first show but also because I'm extremely accident prone. And running right through the audience is no joke.Absolutely not!My Mum and Uncles and aunt were in the audience, watching. My dad was out of station. The turn out was mediocre. Well, the show began, and running behind Amjed(the best actor on show) I tripped only once, well, surprisingly with no major repurcussions. The scene 2, I slip again but manage to camoflauge it well. But the luck was short lived! About 35 minutes into the play BONG!I bang into a hotel signboard while exiting into the right wing. But exitement beats pain, an...
